New Park Side Youth Hub and Community Space opens in North Swindon

Central Swindon North Parish Council has a small team of community and youth workers who deliver a community and youth projects and programmes across the parish. The youth team also works in partnership with Shine Pinehurst, Swindon borough council, Wiltshire police and the Olive Tree café.

Last year Central Swindon North Parish Council was awarded a Youth Investment Fund Refurbishment Grant of £165, 000 to modernise the former Penhill Bowls Club. Since then, the space has undergone a remarkable transformation, evolving from a disused and deteriorating facility into The Parkside Hub, a modern, functional space for youth and community activities. The grant has enabled Central Swindon North Parish Council to engage with young people in the local area to co-design the look and feel of the new space.

Park Side Youth Hub was declared open at a ribbon cutting event on 17 January, bringing the community together and giving them the opportunity to tour the new facility and all that is on offer. It was an important milestone for young people and the whole community.

Thanks to grant funding from the Youth Investment Fund and the commitment of Central Swindon North Parish Council, the site has been refurbished to meet the needs of the local community. The Hub will now be able to host a range of activities for young people, including after-school clubs, youth sessions, and skateboarding events. It will also provide a base for the Penhill Scouts, ensuring its use spans multiple age groups and interests.

The project has addressed a need for safe and accessible community spaces in the area. Therefore, with its upgraded facilities and programming, the Parkside Hub is set to become a key venue for establishing and supporting youth engagement in the area. Central Swindon North Parish Council say that none of this would have been possible without the Youth Investment Fund grant.
