Transforming Sheffield’s youth offer
Overall, Sheffield City Council has now secured just under £5 million from the Youth Investment Fund to improve and enhance youth provision across the city.
The latest investment will significantly expand support for young people aged 10–24 across two areas with limited existing facilities. Once complete, each new centre – around 200m² in size – will offer:
- A flexible community space divisible into two sections
- Office and meeting rooms
- Dedicated youth spaces
- Storage and accessible facilities
Both buildings will operate as combined youth and community centres, connecting young people with trusted adults, youth workers, mentors and a range of support services. Provision will reflect local needs, focusing on school and college engagement, training and employment advice, safeguarding, youth justice, family and health support – including mental health – and opportunities for cultural, leisure and social activities.
This expansion means Sheffield City Council will be able to support many more young people each year, giving them access to safe spaces and opportunities to build confidence, friendship, and life skills.
A new pavilion for Stannington Park
The Council has been working closely with the Stannington community to develop the plans for a new Youth and Community Centre to replace the old pavilion. Work to demolish the old pavilion and to build the foundations will start in the coming months and, once ready, the new building will be craned into place later this year.
A new centre for Winn Gardens
The Council has also been working on similar designs for a brand-new youth and community centre in the heart of Winn Gardens on the site of the Middlewood tower block that was demolished in 2004 which will also be completed later this year.
